SHEEPSKIN
CAR SEAT COVERS
Q. What
makes them so comfortable ?
A. Firstly the wool fibre is like a natural spring coil and with our
sheepskins there are many thousands of fibres per square inch supporting
your body. Secondly, wool is a natural insulator so that you will find that
they provide comfort whatever the weather ~ they are cool in summer and
warm in winter. Thirdly they are moisture aborbent and are able to hold
30 % of it's own weight before feeling damp.
Q. What
happens when the sheepskin needs cleaning ?
A. Our sheepskins are tanned so that they can either be drycleaned or
washed with care, however, because of the size of the covers and the precise temperature requirements in laundering and drying we recommend drycleaning.
Q. Will
the sheepskin shed wool onto my clothing ?
A. No. The bond between wool and leather is much stronger than can be
achieved with man-made fibres.
Q. Why the
big difference in price between tailored and off-the-peg covers ?
A. The quick answer is that much more material and time is used in their
manufacture. Off-the-peg covers basically cover the face of the seat and
back using the material from one and a half large sheepskins. With tailored covers
most of the panels are fully enclosed, they include skirts around the seat,
side panels, and a hood which goes over the top of the back panel. This
normally takes three sheepskins per front seat. In addition, our tailored
covers are exactly that. Our covers are not stretch to fit, we have to pattern each type of seat individually
to ensure a glove fit, . Please note that
the hood panel on the back is not fully enclosed as in most cases this would
make access to map pockets etc difficult.
Q. What
about flammability ?
A. Sheepskin naturally excedes the toughest flammability requirements.
We regularly have batches tested and certified for aviation use ( most commercial
pilots sit sheepskin ).
Q. What
happens if I change my car ?
A. With our off-the peg range you can move the covers without a problem
however tailored covers are specific to the seat and are unlikely to fit
different seats.
Q. Can
I redye my covers ?
A. Unfortunately not. Getting the colour into the wool is only a small part
of the process, essential finishing processes cannot be done to finished
items.
Q. Are they
easy to fit ?
A. Off the peg covers can normally be fitted quite easily in 10 minutes
or so. Tailored covers will require longer but non-the-less can be fitted
by most people in about 30 minutes without the need for special skills or
equipment. We offer a fitting service to visitors to our factory
Q. What
about headrests and armrests ?
A. They can be bought as optional extras for our off the peg and tailored
ranges.
Q. I have
airbags fitted in my seats, is this a problem ?
A. No problem with DRAPE & PIONEER styles but SUPERIDER tailored covers
may not be suitable - we are happy to provide specific advice, please check with us before ordering .
Q. Can you
make covers for other types of seats ?
A. Absolutely; office chairs, aircraft seats, motorbike seats, ocean rowing boat seats, home
furnishings. You name it we will cover it !
Q. What
about colours and different types of wool ?
A. SHERPA fleeces are specifically selected for their superior cushioning properties with wool type and length chosen to optimise performance in use. Similarly we only use high performance dye-stuffs for our range of genuine sheepskin seat covers. These dyes offer excellent light fastness properties and will not transfer onto clothing or upholstery. Please have a look at the COLOUR
page where we have covered these items in detail
